Glaze making - 2026
Inkjet Print, Georgia Lizella Clay, Kudzu Ash, Clay from GSU’s Sparks Hall
This is an attempt to document a part of my practice that feels important. In an aim to reduce my consumption of commercial glaze materials that must be shipped across the world, I utilize ash glazes. These glazes are made from a simple recipe from only ash, clay, and small amounts of silica. The ash for these pieces is sourced from the burning of kudzu from my backyard. In the creation of this glaze material I also am serving the preservation of native plant species by removing an invasaive species which attempts to cover my gardens.
The ceramic “bottle” here is created by weaving a basket from kudzu vines, dipping it into liquid slip, and firing the plant material away.
